Q. Do you allow pets?
Cabins allowing pets – Sandcastle, Musky Hut, Fishing Quarters West and East. $35/day or $200/week per pet regardless of pet size (one pet per cabin). Prior to arrival, please let us know what type of pet and breed you are planning on bringing. We reserve the right not to accept certain breeds and large size animals. Owners are responsible for any damage the pet may cause and clean up after the pet.  All pets must be on a leash, no exceptions.

Q. Do you have a bar? 
We do not have a liquor license. There is a bar/grill open at Wolf Bay half a block from the resort. We do have a bar area in the lodge game room that overlooks the lake. Guests can bring in their own beverages of choice.

Q. Is the resort open year-round? 
Our season includes opening fishing season in early May until freeze up which is usually is the second week of November. We are not open in winter.

Q. Do you have laundry facilities? 
Yes, we have a central laundry with coin-operated washers and dryers. Several of the larger cabins have their own coin-operated machines. We have laundry supplies available in the lodge store. The machines take quarters.

Q. What is your check in/check out time? 
Our check-in time is 5 PM. Check out time is 8 AM. We can adjust times within a few hours with advanced notice and contingent on the number of requests. Requested early check-in and late check-outs are accepted based on order received.

Q. Are there groceries stores near the resort? 
We do recommend you buy your groceries prior to arrival. We do sell bread, ice cream, milk, butter, eggs and pop in our general store. Check our Area Info page for area shopping information. On the top menu, click on INFO>AREA INFORMATION

Q. Do you sell liquor at the resort? Where is the closest place to purchase liquor?
We do not sell liquor. There is a bar/grill within half a block of the resort. There is a liquor store in Cook.

Q. What do we need for the cabin?
You will need to bring personal hand soaps, shampoo, dish soap, scrub pads, beach towels for pool or beach, charcoal for the grill, and laundry soap. Everything for the cabin is provided including comforters, sheets, pillows, bath towels, kitchen towels, trash bags, toilet paper, coffee filters, dishes, and dishwasher soap. Q. Linens and towels...what does the resort provide?
We provide bath towels and kitchen towels, dish cloths and pot holders in the cabins. For weekly stays, we do a towel exchange on Wednesdays. For a list of all cabin amenities, click HERE.

Q. Do you allow Jet skis?
Jet Skis are allowed but ask guests to observe a no-wake rule within ¼ mile of the resort. Lake Vermilion sees little Jet Ski traffic due to the rock terrain of the lake which is not conducive to Jet skiing. We are not aware of any marinas on the lake that rent Jet Skis.

Q. Do you have fishing guides?
There are a variety of guides in the Lake Vermilion area. The guides work independently from the resorts. They provide their boats, gas, bait and ice. We can help recommend the guides that we know and have guided other VDL guests. Check under FISHING on the main menu above to find HIRING A FISHING GUIDE and VDL RECOMMENDED GUIDES

Q. Do you have a restaurant at the resort?
We offer meal plans served in the Lodge with at least one days’ notice. The meal plans we offer are prearranged and not off a menu. We have a fantastic chef with over 30 years’ experience. Our chef Rick is very flexible to a variety of meal options he can prepare. Check out the meal plan HERE. There is a bar/grill small resort located a short walking distance from the VDL.

Q. Does the resort charge guests for dock space if I bring my own own boat?
No, we do not charge for dock space. If you wish a covered boat slip (we have a very limited number), we do charge a fee.

Q. Do all the cabins have private docks?
No, there is a variety of docks throughout the resort. All the docks have access to electrical hookups. All the docks are considered shared by all the resort guests. We have enough dock space that ensures everyone has a good place to park. The main dock is 200 feet long with slips down both sides. It can hold 30 boats.

Q. Rental boats…what do we need to bring?
If you have a personal flotation device that fits and works well for you, bring it - especially for small children. If not, we have a variety of life jackets in a variety of sizes for you to use at no charge. The boats are fully equipped (nets, anchors, life jackets, depth finders, etc.)

Q. Is the pool heated?
Yes, the pool is heated. For safety reasons, we do not use a heat cover at night. On rare evenings during the summer if the outside temperature drops below normal ranges, it will drop the pool temperature. It usually takes a few hours to recover. The pool heater and filter system run from the first weekend in June through Labor Day and is only shut down for maintenance.

Q . Is the pool staffed with a life guard?
No. Children are required to have an adult present. Diving or running around the pool area is not allowed.

Q. Do you have an area to park my boat trailer?
Yes, we have a large lot dedicated for trailer parking.

Q. Do we have to remove our fishing equipment from the boats at night?
We have never had a problem with theft, but we recommend guests lock up belongings left in boats or carry valuables back to the cabin.

Q . Do you sell gas, bait and licenses at the resort?
Yes, we offer PAY AT THE PUMP gas sales on the dock, the gas pump is a credit/debit card point of sale dispenser. All gas sales must be paid for at the time of purchase. If a guest prefers to not pay with a credit card, they may purchase the gas in the lodge store via cash or check. We do not offer charging gas to your cabin. We do sell bait, tackle and fishing licenses in the lodge store.

Q. Do you have a fish cleaning facility?
Yes, we have a fish-cleaning building available anytime to clean your fish. Between the hours of 7:00 am until dark our staff will clean and package the following game fish: walleye, bass, northern pike and crappie at no charge. We staff will clean panfish with a limit of 20 and a charge of .50 per fish.

Q. Does the resort accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept every major credit card.

Q. Can we pay our balance by check?
Check or cash is our preferred method of payment.

Q. If you want to rebook the same week the following year, can we do that upon departure?
Yes, we provide guests at check-out with an opportunity to rebook the same cabin and time period for the next year before accepting any other reservations. That reservation will have to be secured with a deposit at check-out time to confirm the reservation. 

Q. Are there hiking trails near the resort?
The area around the resort is very rural. The roads around the resort are great for walking.

Q. Do the cabins have phones or TVs?
No, but the lodge is equipped with a TV. Lakeview cabin is equipped with a TV and satellite. Most mobile phones have a WiFi calling feature that should work in your cabin.

Q. Does the resort have wireless Internet available?
Yes, cabins have WiFi (Average of 3.5mbps) available in the cabins. Faster Internet is available in the lodge community room.

Q. Does Vermilion have a slot size for walleye and other species?
Walleye have a protective slot of 20 to 26 inches (all Walleyes between 20 & 26 inches must be immediately released). The possession limit on Walleyes is 4. Check out the Minnesota regulations HERE
Northern Pike have a protective slot of 30 to 40 inches (all Northerns between 30 & 40 inches must be immediately released) Possession limit on Northern Pike is 2. One of the two Pike possession limit fish can exceed 40 inches.
