Welcome to Vermilion Dam Lodge, your gateway to fishing, boating and vacationing in northern Minnesota’s rugged Arrowhead region, where nature’s beauty awaits, wildlife abounds and fish of all species teem beneath the pristine surface. A place where you can experience it all…or just plain take things slow and easy…whatever your heart desires. In all cases, it’s a great destination to get away from it all and experience the finest, most unspoiled settings that Mother Nature offers.

Vermilion Dam isn’t just any lodge. It’s a place where families, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts come to enjoy our majestic wilderness in comfort and style. Where you can set your own pace and schedule, and do your own cooking…or take advantage of our experienced fishing guides, expert services and delicious meal plans geared to enhance your visit and leave all the work to us. Our veteran staff is here to do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true.

As you visit this site, you can get a good feel of what our operation looks like, particularly the accommodations available in our many luxurious cabins. But what it’s harder to appreciate is just how good our staff is at making things run seamlessly—or at least making it appear that way! There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes at a fishing lodge at the end of the road, much of it unseen by our guests. That’s just the way we want it. We take care of all the details. You simply enjoy your visit.

We’ve found that fishing with your own group is fine for most folks. But some anglers prefer more of a social setting amidst like-minded enthusiasts eager to learn more about their sport, becoming better fishermen in the process. That’s why we offer two extremely popular instructional events staffed by fishing experts willing to share their knowledge to help you put more and bigger fish in the boat.

First up is our Fall Walleye School, which brings together walleye enthusiasts of all skill levels, from beginners, to modestly successful anglers wishing to improve their savvy and skills, to aspiring professionals who’d like to tackle the tournament game and pro circuits. They all come together under the tutelage of two well-known walleye/electronics experts who’ve fished a wide variety of waters and taught countless anglers to better pursue their sport.

The main objective of this school is to educate anglers in the enhanced use of their electronics. Today, most passionate anglers own good, high-end fishing electronics, yet surprisingly few are acquainted with their many remarkable features. By employing a comprehensive blend of classroom sessions with on-the-water instruction, our experts will show you how to fully utilize your electronics to locate and catch more and bigger fish. Which we’ll do right here on Lake Vermilion, because there will be plenty of fishing time to put your new knowledge to work between classroom sections.

This year, we’re fortunate to have two distinguished walleye experts hosting our event: National Walleye Champion and full-time professional fisherman/educator Johnnie Candle; And “Doctor Sonar” Bruce Samson, ten-time professional walleye tournament winner, wellknown for his instructional DVDs and fishing classes geared toward Electronics and Fishing Skill.

Call 800/325-5780 or go to to reserve your spot at the Fall Walleye School. Space is limited to 60 anglers; first come, first served. A total of $675 per person includes all food, lodging, dock space, bait and ice. Reservations must be accompanied by a $100 down payment to hold your spot.

Every October, hardcore muskie nuts make Vermilion Dam Lodge a must stop on their fall schedule to take advantage of our fall get-together for muskie enthusiasts. It’s become so popular, in fact, that we’ve been forced to limit the attendees to 90 anglers. So if you’re interested in attending, make sure to make your reservations well in advance.

The Muskie Outing is not so much a school, as it is an opportunity for anglers of all different skill/experiences to share information, learn from each other and have a great weekend of fishing. Many of Lake Vermilion’s best muskie guides will be in attendance, including legendary muskie historian Larry Ramsell himself. Nightly seminars, raffles and great meals top off this non-competitive fishing event.
